Perlite

Perlite is a naturally occurring volcanic glass rock found in large deposits on the continents of North America, Europe and Asia. The ore is mined and crushed to a variety of particle sizes. It is then blended to produce a selection of raw grades suitable for immediate use in certain applications or when further processed, as a lightweight aggregate or granular insulant in many products and industries.

Uses
Crushed Raw Perlite: used mainly as a slag coagulant.
Expanded Perlite: Flue Linings, Insulation, lightweight plasters, Refractory mortars, linings and concretes.

Performance - Moisture
Free moisture maximum 0.5%. Take care to prevent the material coming into contact with moisture during storage and use, otherwise important properties of both the raw ore and expanded perlite can be impaired, for example the thermal conductivity will be increased.

Health & Safety
Expanded perlite is classed as low risk. Care should be taken to minimise the creation or dispersion of dust during handling.

Durability
Perlite, being a natural mineral, is durable and stable.

Storage
Store bags of perlite under cover to avoid contact with moisture.
